The Fasting Habit: Engineering a Better Body (Because Hope is Not a Strategy)

Most health advice for people our age is, frankly, a bit of a muddle.

It’s usually written by well-meaning 24-year-olds who think “senior” is a polite term for someone who’s forgotten how to use a toaster. Or, increasingly, it’s churned out by an AI bot that has never actually tasted a steak, let alone tried to resist a second helping of one.

They treat us like we’re fragile, medically unsound, and ready to be tucked away with a pre-packaged “assisted meal” service.

I’m here to suggest a different path.

The “In Theory” Problem

You’ve seen the books. You’ve seen the websites. Everything should really start with “In theory, this diet works because…”

But as any engineer will tell you, there is a massive canyon between a perfect machine drawing and an actual working machine, especially when it’s raining. On a cold Tuesday morning. And you’re tired. And you’re annoyed at your boss.

The world doesn’t need another “theory” about the Mediterranean diet or Keto. We need a control system that keeps the machinery running when life goes “out-of-spec.” I’m more about taking the theory, and actually making it work.

An Engineer’s Approach to the “Human Machine”

I am 70 years old. I’ve spent my career in electronics, designing systems and verifying complex processes. My job is to take a mess of variables and turn them into a robust, simplified, and idiot-proof system. Sometimes I do this by modifying the machine, and at other times I modify the process. I don’t want to reinvent the machine here; I want to build a better dashboard.

TheFastingHabit.com isn’t here to replace the excellent diet books and recipe guides already on your shelf. Think of those as the hardware. I’m providing the software – the practical, “how-to-actually-do-it” logic for active seniors who still carry out their own work and prepare their own meals.

What’s in it for You?

Simplification, Not Complication: I take the technicalities of OMAD, Water Fasting, and Keto and strip them down to the bare essentials. How can we make this automatic?

  • The “Warts-and-All” Data: Most health sites are suspiciously perfect. I’m not. I publish my personal daily journals and weekly reviews—failures, plateaus, and all. If the system fails, I’ll show you exactly how I recalibrate.
  • The “Back on the Horse” Protocol: We all go off the rails. The goal isn’t to be perfect; it’s to have the mental “instrumentation” to realize you’re out of spec and the tools to bring yourself back in.
  • Vetted Resources: I’ll act as your filter. If a book or a method is actually useful, I’ll tell you. If it’s just more “in theory” fluff, I’ll tell you that, too.

How Hard Can It Be?

We are a generation of builders, fixers, and doers. We don’t need to be managed; we just need a better system.

I’m simply applying a bit of engineering discipline to the process of getting older. It’s about being “active” rather than “assisted.” If you want a logical, no-nonsense way to use fasting and nutrition to reclaim your energy, then welcome to the workshop.

“It’s okay to fall off the rails – in fact it’s natural. It’s only a disaster if you don’t have a plan to get back on them.”
